Sport for Humanity Foundation Welcomes Two New Board Directors

Atlanta, GA (July 8, 2024) – The Sport for Humanity Foundation announced today the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors – Paige Backman and Scott E. Moran-Barreiro.

“I am honoured to welcome Paige and Scott as SSH Board Directors,” said David Eades, Chairman of the Board. “Their leadership skills and fresh perspective, along with a drive to make a difference, are all abundantly evident – and highly valued. And they both share a similar view on how best to enhance the work we are doing.”

Paige is a Partner and Co-Practice Group Leader of the Corporate/Commercial Group at Aird & Berlis, one of Canada’s leading law firms. She is also the Chair of the firm’s Privacy & Data Security Group, Co-Chair of the National Security and Technology Groups, and a member of the Sports, Media & Entertainment Group. Paige has been consistently ranked as one of Canada’s top sports lawyers. She was a high-performance athlete before her legal career, representing Canada as a member of its National Water Polo Team, and has represented, been a director of and been an advisor for national and international professional and amateur sports organizations. Paige has also advised and consulted on investigations and disciplinary proceedings relating to high-performance athletes, coaches, officials, and political appointees. Paige’s passion for business law is equally matched by her great interest in improving the global community through the power of sports. She is committed to the integration of sport into humanity’s most critical issues, such as combating violence and racism and promoting equality.  Paige has been heavily involved from the beginning with Sport at the Service of Humanity, including attending the 2016 Vatican conference, in its goal of uniting global leaders in business, sport and all faiths to help address significant humanitarian issues.

Scott is currently General Counsel of Rectangle Health, a leading financial technology company, as well as minority owner and Chief Legal Officer of several professional football clubs in Europe and Latin America. He has worked as a senior executive and legal counsel for several multinational companies, including AT&T, IBM and Time Warner.  His sports-advisory work has included projects with entities such as AC Milan, the Bundesliga, Cruz Azul, Everton, the Football Association of Ireland, River Plate, and the Royal Football Federation of Spain.  Prior to his business and legal career, Scott served as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  He is a native Spanish and English linguist, fluent in Portuguese and proficient in French.  Scott currently lives in Atlanta, where he supports multiple community and religious organizations, such as Soccer-in-the-Streets, the Latin American Association, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.

“Paige and Scott each bring a wealth of business and philanthropic experience, as well as passion for sport, faith, and their combined value as tools for positive social impact,” said SSH CEO Philip Leopold. “I am excited to work with them to ensure that Sport at the Service of Humanity continues to thrive and build on its mission – to see a world where we all #LiveLikeWePlay!”
